Our proposed project is to transition our Wolf Class (Grades 4–9) into a more sustainable, temperature-controlled learning space. Currently, this group learns primarily in a green house; a wonderful, creative environment that we intend to continue using for hands-on and project-based learning. However, as our program grows and our seasons in Ontario bring extreme cold, this space is no longer sustainable as a primary classroom.
We are seeking funding to invest in a new 12’ x 40’ temperature-controlled building equipped with an HVAC system to ensure year-round comfort and safety. This new space will allow students to focus on their learning without the limitations posed by weather, and it will serve as a long-term investment in the health and well-being of our community.
In the future, we hope to equip the space with a small kitchen to support our seed-to-feed learning pathway; a natural extension of our location on an organic farm surrounded by forest. This addition would deepen student engagement in food literacy, sustainable agriculture, and environmental stewardship.
Beyond supporting the Wolf Class, this building will also serve as a multi-use hub for the entire school, providing space for wellness programs, nutrition education, and community initiatives.
Overall, this project aligns with our commitment to sustainability, experiential learning, and student well-being; creating a learning environment that reflects our values and supports our students in every season.
Value to the Community:
This project represents more than just a new classroom, it’s an investment in the longevity and sustainability of a grassroots, community-based not-for-profit school. The Owl’s Nest School was built from the ground up by local families who believe deeply in providing children with meaningful, nature-connected education. As a small, rural school operating on an organic farm, we rely on creativity, community support, and shared values to make this vision possible.
By creating a temperature-controlled, multi-use learning space, we are ensuring that our students and our educators have a safe, healthy, and consistent environment to learn and grow throughout the year. This project directly supports the well-being of local families who depend on our programs, while also strengthening the roots of our not-for-profit so that it can continue serving future generations.
Long-term, this new building will serve as a hub for connection, sustainability, and experiential learning. With plans to include a small kitchen, it will allow our community to explore the seed-to-feed process, deepen our farm-to-table education, and host workshops and events that bring families together.
This initiative reflects the heart of who we are: a community that invests in its children, values the land we learn on, and works collectively to build something lasting.
