What is this project about?
This project will help support the children and youth within Cornwall and District who are participating in our mentoring programs and services through a Wellness workshop series dedicated to assist in Cooking/ budgeting a meal, Meditation, Yoga, Cyber Safety and Consent program.
Our goal as an organization is to provide children and youth in single-parent homes with mentors who can set healthy boundaries, develop positive relationships and provide activities they normally wouldn’t be able to participate in due to their home economics. With this grant we want to give basic knowledge around budgeting and food preparation, the importance of consent, cyber safety education, meditation, yoga and learning overall wellness towards their mental health that will help support them through life challenges and give some tools that they can carry on through their life path.
Why is this project important to the community?
The need for food education and resources across Canada and within Cornwall has such a high importance. Being able to give these resources to the children and youth within our community that we serve is a goal of ours.
During Covid-19, the mental health effects on children and youth were considerable. Children and youth not being able to see one another and struggling with isolation took a toll on them. The ability to provide a wellness series for our mentees is something they would benefit from.
The creation of this Wellness Workshop series also matches the objectives set in the ‘’Vibrant Communities – our Safety and Well-Being Plan’’, a plan designed to ensure no one is left behind and that everyone has equal opportunities to access the services they need to live resilient, meaningful lives. This plan was developed by the Social Development Council of Cornwall and area in collaboration with several agency partners. Said plan has been attached for your perusal.
