Upgrade of Foley Horse Show Ring

What is this project about?

We have been working over the past two years to upgrade our horse ring. Four years ago we levelled more space for parking and put in gravel. Last year we did site work to divert water from flowing through the ring after major rain storms, levelled out the ring removing all the boulders and larger stones and making a new base. We added sand so that the ground was not too hard and not too soft. We also replaced one gate that had fallen off the post and thus was difficult to open and close. This year we are requesting funds to replace our deteriorating horse ring fence. The fending is about 30 years old and is starting to rot. The requested funds would cover the take down and removal of the existing fence, the material and installation of a new ranch style vinyl fence, as well as replacing the second existing gate to allow access to the horse ring. The proposed fencing would enclose the horse ring at our fairgrounds, ensuring safety to community members, riders, and the horses attending our fair. The proposed fencing materials are environmentally friendly, durable, require little maintenance, and will be structurally sound for many years to come.

Why is this project important to the community?

The Foley Fall Fair is a cherished tradition that attracts attendees year after year. We are a fairly new fair having been started in 1963. We anticipate a significant turnout for this milestone event. As the main public outdoor event space in Foley, the fairgrounds play a crucial role in fostering community engagement and connection. The grounds are used for weddings, a summer forest school program, offers camping space for the local Guiding organization, and hosts outdoor concerts and other events.
The Foley Fall Fair Horse Show is a fun and safe way to compete against other horse lovers. We offer halter, English, western , Extreme Trail and Games. Something for every discipline. We provide a platform for riders of all skill levels and ages to showcase their talents. This event not only encourages youth involvement but also motivates participants to enhance their equestrian skills at the community level. Moreover, the horse show offers captivating entertainment for fair attendees, who consistently express their enjoyment of the performances. By supporting this initiative, we can further enrich the fair experience and strengthen our community bonds through shared appreciation and learning for equestrian sports.
