What is this project about?
This project is a central part of the Sundridge-Strong Union Public Library’s ongoing plan to update and maintain current computer and mobile technologies which are heavily used and relied upon by the permanent and seasonal residents of our rural-based community.
Revitalizing our technology is a key and urgent strategy for the library in maintaining and improving the services that it offers. In addition to updating our out-of-date computers, this project looks to renew our tablets, projector, and early literacy station. The project will also enhance our existing Lego Makerspace and add more elements such as a button maker, robotics kits, STEAM resources, photo digitization, and a Cricut cutter.
Why is this project important to the community?
Our library plays an essential role in promoting and supporting digital literacy and providing online access to government programs, business opportunities and information for education and learning. With limited broadband in our area, many of the local residents rely on the high-speed internet offered free of charge by the library.
However, without updating our basic computer equipment the learning and engagement which should take place in the library is limited. Updating our technology and Makerspace elements will engage and encourage our community members to be innovative and creative, seek out new ideas, and think critically. Access to new technology will also promote life-long learning in our community.
