The Makery: Design and Technology Space

What is this project about?

The Parry Sound Public Library fosters community engagement by appealing to a diverse range of needs and avenues of creative expression through access to technology that may not be otherwise available.
Upgraded computers and a Makerspace will provide access to different materials for creative projects, such as the Cricut Maker, button maker, heat press, and an improved 3D printer. Many members of our community, as well as our community service partners, do not have access to these tools and would welcome the opportunity to experiment with different creative projects. This initiative would bring our patrons, community partners and service agencies together enabling us to support one another while strengthening community ties.

Why is this project important to the community?

Parry Sound Public Library is the “community living room” of Parry Sound. We provide equitable access to information and entertainment in the form of books, movies, and Internet access.
In addition to our regular library materials and programming, Parry Sound Public Library also hosts monthly Inter-Agency meetings for community partners and service providers within our large geographic area. With community-building in mind, a library Makerspace would not only serve our patrons but would provide the opportunity for our community partners to access this technology as well, thereby supporting them in their growth, creativity and fundraising possibilities. Building strong community partnerships benefits everyone.
