Carlow/Mayo Public Library is a unique library. We are located in our local public school but our dreams extend much further from the building. Our mission is "to engage the community in equitable access to information and ideas that inspire, inform, and entertain," and our vision "to be an inclusive community hub with exceptional services, accessible to all." Our project, Tech Connect, is going to push us even closer to our goal!
Our library is an important resource for digital access as we have very limited, to no cell service in our area and our access to affordable and dependable internet is also limits. Our library is very lucky to be able to offer both free and dependable access. Patrons come to the library to do their online banking, apply for jobs, and research government forms, connect with family etc. However, our computers are aging out and we require new ones to help keep our community connected.
Tech Connect is also going to reach our youth. We are requesting funding for chromebooks where families can borrow digital literacy from our library. They can use this lending technology to access free online literacy websites such as Splash Learn and use their school codes for Epic. This is our way of reaching our youth to encourage early literacy at home, and also provide more accessibility options to our patrons.
Finally, Tech Connect will be providing our programming with innovating STEM kits to engage our community in exciting hands on learning. We are hoping to reach more families through new ways of learning by providing access to new program opportunities at our library.
As the definition of accessibility grows, Carlow/Mayo Public Library will be able to grow with it from the assistance of Tech Connect @ Carlow/Mayo Public Library!
