Strong Libraries, Stronger Communities: Rebuilding our libraries as inclusive hubs for learning, technology, and community connection

What is this project about?

Strong Libraries, Stronger Communities is a revitalization project designed to rebuild and strengthen our municipal library system following a period of closure and transition. With our library serving over 2,300 users, our branches are essential hubs for learning, technology access, and social connection.
This project will directly enhance library services by:
• Giving residents an accessible way to explore music and creativity by developing a musical instrument lending collection.
• Creating a safe, welcoming space for children and families by adding child-friendly furniture and engaging activities that encourage play, learning, and quality time together.
• Transforming our branches into welcoming spaces where residents of all ages can read, relax, and connect, by adding comfortable seating.
By investing in these resources, we will offer new opportunities for creative expression, early learning, and community belonging—ensuring our libraries continue to meet diverse needs and foster a stronger, more connected municipality.

Why is this project important to the community?

Our library branches are at the heart of three unique communities. They are more than places to borrow books; they are vital public services that foster connection, learning, and access to technology. They provide seniors with companionship, welcome children and youth of all learning paths to explore, play, and discover, support families by offering space to spend meaningful time together, and offer newcomers a safe, inclusive environment to get to know their surroundings.
During the six-month closure, residents were left without these services, and the impact was felt throughout our communities. This project is critical because it will restore and strengthen our branches as welcoming hubs where all residents, long-time neighbours and newcomers alike, can access resources, build skills, and grow together. By investing in our library now, we are investing in the resilience, inclusivity, education, and long-term vitality of our municipality.
