Strengthening Community Engagement Through Volunteer Recognition

What is this project about?

Ontario Track3 has been powered by volunteers for more than 50 years. Each winter, over 350 community members dedicate more than 10,000 hours to ensure children and youth with disabilities can thrive through adaptive skiing, snowboarding, and snowshoeing.
This project will strengthen community engagement by investing in recognition and retention. With support from L.E.A.F., we will:
- Provide service pins and name badges to build pride, identity, and intergenerational mentorship.
- Supply red volunteer jackets that create a visible, unified presence on the slopes and demonstrate inclusion to the broader public.
- Host end-of-season celebrations and awards that strengthen bonds across all programs and reduce volunteer burnout.
- Recognize the leadership of our Program Directors, whose long-term commitment provides stability and mentorship for hundreds of volunteers.
These tools will ensure volunteers feel valued, proud, and connected, inspiring them to stay engaged and encourage new community members to join.

Why is this project important to the community?

Track3 volunteers are the heart of our community. They make inclusion visible by teaching children with disabilities new skills and creating a sense of belonging for families who often feel excluded. Some volunteers have dedicated decades of service, mentoring others and sustaining the inclusive culture of Track3.
Yet, retention is a challenge. Every child requires at least two trained volunteers, and without strong engagement, programs cannot run. Recognition tools, such as pins, jackets, awards, and leadership gifts, are not “extras.” They are deliberate strategies to strengthen commitment, deepen pride, and reinforce continuity. End-of-season awards and celebrations foster shared identity across programs, bringing together families, athletes, and volunteers to celebrate inclusion in action.
By engaging and retaining volunteers, Track3 ensures children with disabilities have access not only to sport, but to a vibrant, inclusive community that builds resilience for families and for the volunteers themselves.
