STEMpower: Coding and Robotics for all

What is this project about?

STEMpower: Coding & Robotics for All is a free, hands-on learning program at the Carleton Place and District Youth Centre that gives youth the opportunity to explore technology, coding, and robotics in a fun and supportive environment. Through partnerships with Professionals in the field, participants aged 8–16 will learn the basics of programming, as well as robotics and circuit design using. The program encourages creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving while building essential digital literacy skills. By removing financial barriers, STEMpower ensures that youth from low-income and disadvantaged families can access high-quality STEM education. It’s about more than technology—it’s about empowering young people, building confidence, and helping them discover their potential as future innovators, creators, and community leaders.

Why is this project important to the community?

This project is important to our community because it addresses a growing digital and educational gap that affects many children and youth in Carleton Place. Families facing financial hardship often cannot afford technology or enrichment programs, leaving their children at a disadvantage in an increasingly digital world. STEMpower: Coding & Robotics for All provides these youth with free, high-quality STEM learning opportunities that build digital literacy, creativity, and problem-solving skills. It gives young people the chance to see themselves as capable learners and future innovators, while giving parents hope that their children can pursue meaningful careers regardless of income. By investing in our youth today, we’re building a more equitable, skilled, and future-ready community where everyone has the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed.
