Through a recent public survey, community members identified a need for semi-private spaces where they can participate in virtual meetings and appointments. As more essential services move online, including medical appointments, employment interviews, and government services, access to a private, reliable space with internet connectivity has become increasingly important.
Currently, there are no dedicated soundproof spaces available at the Orillia Public Library, and few accessible options exist within the broader community. This creates a significant barrier for residents who do not have reliable internet access at home or who are unable to secure a library hotspot when demand is high.
To address this need, the Library will purchase and install two soundproof study pods that provide a quiet, private environment for virtual appointments, interviews, remote work, and online learning. To ensure equitable access, one pod will be fully customized to accommodate wheelchair users and other mobility devices. These study pods will enhance digital inclusion, improve access to essential services, and create welcoming, accessible spaces that support the diverse needs of our community.
