North Grenville Musical Instrument Lending Library (MILL)

What is this project about?

The North Grenville Musical Instrument Lending Library (MILL) aims to increase affordable access to musical education to the communities of North Grenville, Merrickville-Wolford, and Edwardsburgh Cardinal. This is achieved through the free lending of musical instruments to individuals, by bringing in local artists and instructors to lead free musical education classes, and to allow local artists to give back through volunteering. Our goals are to bring people together, support people staying in the community/ not having to leave for resources, and enable people to fully participate in community.

Why is this project important to the community?

Historically, there have always been less access to resources and supports in rural communities. Although North Grenville is growing, unfortunately, many people still need to leave the community/ go to Ottawa for access to arts and culture. Last year, North Grenville lost its primary music store in the community. While the Musical Instrument Lending Library (MILL) cannot replace the loss of the local business, it can help to ensure the community maintains access to musical instruments.
Prior to launching the MILL we asked the community about their thoughts. Overwhelmingly, the community said that this would be a valuable addition to North Grenville.
