Making Volunteer Connections

What is this project about?

This project is about overcoming the technological and other barriers that prevent people from discovering the right role that taps into their full potential. The greatest barriers to volunteering in 2023 were:
• Finding a time that matches
• Discovering a “specific role with a specific timeline or specific project with an end date.”
• Lack of awareness of a central database with a clear list of opportunities
• No one “asked.”
We offer a solution to these problems but need to do further outreach to the tens of thousands of people who have yet to discover us. We also understand that many people find a digital platform intimidating and would benefit from a demonstration that introduces them to a menu of clear options.

Why is this project important to the community?

Volunteer match-making is direly needed as non-profits lost half their volunteers during the pandemic and 40 percent of those helpers never came back – just as demand for services rises to their highest levels. Our alignment speeds up the recruitment process and helps develop a lasting relationship.

However, legacy organizations continue to work under their old practices, which makes volunteer matching more tedious and less successful. Once volunteer managers understand the power of this platform, they will better adapt to the new landscape for volunteer management. The groups that have mastered this approach are having remarkable rates of success.

After all, volunteers make so much magic happen via front-line service delivery right through to offering leadership at the board level.

As part of the training, organizations will learn about our additional services, such as posting roles for technology-challenged individuals and curated skills contact lists, that we offer with annual memberships.

This, in turn, helps sustain Volunteer Peterborough so our community doesn't lose this resource as it has twice before.
