The Listowel Agricultural Society is expanding its existing food booth at the Listowel Fairgrounds to approximately double its current size. The project is already underway and will create a safer, more functional space for the many volunteers who prepare and serve food during the annual Listowel Fair and other events.
The existing food booth has served the Society well, but the volume of food being prepared and the number of volunteers working together has outgrown the available space. On a busy fair day, as many as 25 volunteers can be working in the booth at one time. Over the four days of the Fair, the Society has been known to prepare approximately two tons of potatoes alone!
The expansion will provide much-needed additional counter and floor space, extra sinks and improved food preparation areas. A new fire suppression system is also being installed to improve safety within the cooking area. Together, these improvements will help the Society maintain proper food safety and health standards while providing volunteers with a safer and more efficient environment in which to work.
This food booth is an important part of the Listowel Fair experience and is operated largely through the efforts of community volunteers. This project is about more than simply making the building larger. It is an investment in volunteer safety, food safety and the long-term sustainability of an important community tradition, allowing the Agricultural Society to continue serving thousands of fairgoers and bringing people together for years to come.
