Families within the developmental sector are struggling increasingly more then they have ever been challenged before. With ongoing financial struggles, lack of resources or long waitlist for services there is an increase in stress, anxieties, mental health and a sense of helplessness within families.
To address these challenges “Linked In, Bridging families towards self advocacy and resiliency in the developmental sector” will connect families to tools and resources that will strengthen their resiliency, advocacy, and navigating the complexities of services within their comm
Providing two full day opportunities for families to participate in, and (1 in Peterborough, 1 in City of Kawartha Lakes) reflect on discussion topics such as:
• Behaviour Guidance,
• Financial Literacy,
• Parent Networking and Respite
• Recreational and Social opportunities for children and youth
• Building a resilient family in uncertain times, facilitate and advocate for individualized supports
will create a stronger entry point in bridging services for families who are navigating the developmental sector.
The full day opportunity will:
• create an event where parents/care providers can connect with each other, network and provide an avenue where they can mentor, share in struggles, share strategies, and create a strong advocacy group.
• Have access to a Building Block Tool which will be full of resources, strategies and materials in helping to facilitate the process of waiting for more formal support services. The Building Block Tool will introduce strategy tips to better help parents, children and youth respond to challenges, be proactive, and responsive rather than in crisis and survival mode.
• Introduce families to potential recreational opportunities for their child/youth within their surrounding communities. Recreational and physical health reduces stressors, provides a sense of belonging, resiliency and support a strong mental health foundation within themselves.
