LaunchPoint is a program designed to support adults from having to choose between survival and increasing their opportunities. The goal of the program is to provide adults with the skills to help land their first job, move up at work or change gears into a new career.
LaunchPoint runs training in a compartmental format which means participants can ‘pick and mix’ the topics they want to take, allowing them to learn while continuing to work or search for work. Having the ability to choose will allow participants to pick the topics to best support their plan.
The topics in LaunchPoint can be delivered as frequently as needed and perfect for volunteers to instruct as the resources would be pre-designed. TLG can recruit volunteers who have the specific skillset for each topic so increasing the quality of instruction. The course does not need a full-time instructor and so ideal for its longevity as it is not reliant on a large budget. Finally, the program is customizable, and TLG can update the content quickly according to the changing demand in the local workforce. Each course would be equivalent of 12 to 15 hours of learning.
Adults (16+) in the region who require basic skills upgrading are three times as likely to be living in unstable living conditions. This could mean living with financial uncertainty, varied living conditions or instability in their mental health.
With 25 years experience working with these adults, TLG knows that a traditional learning model is not a good fit. Enrolling in programs that require long term commitment often mean learners fail, which in turn increases their fear of learning and lowers their self-confidence. These experiences increase the risk of them remaining in an unstable world.
