IndigiTECH Mentorship Program

What is this project about?

An innovative and integrated program to support Indigenous communities with the skills and training needed to reduce educational and employment gaps in the tech sector. Through the training, participants will not just be consumers of technology but will become digital creators.

Why is this project important to the community?

Indigenous peoples are underrepresented in "knowledge industries"—e.g., professional, managerial, and technical occupations—which tend to require technical education and generally pay better. According to a study from Toronto Metropolitan (formerly Ryerson) University's Brookfield Institute, only 2.2% of the tech workforce is Indigenous. Despite Indigenous peoples being one of the fastest-growing populations in Canada, they continue to experience inequitable access to programs focused on digital technology. Systemic barriers and their exclusion from participation and leadership in the tech industry further narrow the possibilities for inclusive digital solutions.

IFA believes that significant untapped talent exists among Indigenous Communities. With that in mind, the IFA aims to reduce education and employment gaps, supporting Indigenous youths to leverage technology for cultural expression, tech equity, and digital sovereignty.

IFA is dedicated to empowering underserved Indigenous youth by addressing systemic barriers to education, employment, and leadership opportunities. Through culturally tailored programs, we integrate traditional knowledge with digital skills training, fostering personal and professional growth.
