The project’s aim is to address the centre’s urgent need for additional sitting areas in order to enhance comfort, accessibility, and the overall member experience at the Innisfil YMCA by installing 18 new benches throughout the facility.
Six benches will be placed in key public areas, including pool viewing spaces and outside program areas. These benches will provide comfortable seating for those watching children in programs and rest spots for members between classes or while transitioning through the facility.
An additional 12 benches will be added to our change rooms, offering stable, accessible seating for members to rest after a workout or safely get changed. This is especially important for seniors, families with young children, and individuals with mobility challenges.
We are seeking support to purchase new benches because ensuring spaces are accessible and inclusive to all regardless of age of ability is key to supporting those seeking a more healthy and active lifestyle. Whether it's a senior pausing after a class, a parent waiting during swim lessons, or a new visitor getting their bearings, these benches offer more than just a seat; they represent our commitment to inclusion, hospitality, and community care.
With a high volume of daily visitors, The Innisfil YMCA lacks in spaces for people to sit. It is essential that everyone who enters the Innisfil YMCA feels welcomed, supported, and at ease. That experience begins from the moment they walk in and is shaped not only by our programs and staff but also by the physical spaces where people gather, rest, and connect.
Right now, there is an urgent need for additional seating. Many of our seniors, parents, and visitors struggle to find a place to sit while waiting for programs or recovering after activity. New benches will significantly enhance the comfort, accessibility, and overall experience of our community.
Whether it’s a senior pausing after class, a parent waiting during swim lessons, or a newcomer finding their bearings, these benches offer more than just a seat, they symbolize our commitment to inclusion, hospitality, and community care.
Adding benches in the change rooms and gym viewing areas will make a more welcoming and inclusive for everyone who walks through our doors.
