Grow & Connect: Sensory Garden & Tranquility Zone

What is this project about?

Grow & Connect: Sensory Garden & Tranquility Zone
This request is to renovate and redesign the existing sensory garden at Options Day Program, establish a new accessible garden for all homes, community participants and to create a dedicated Tranquility zone on our beautiful property, engaging sight, touch, smell, hearing, and taste, featuring aromatic plants, tactile elements, wind chimes, and a water feature.

Participants will build practical gardening skills, explore sensory-rich experiences, and develop confidence and independence. The gardens will foster community engagement, learning, and inclusion for all Community Living Dufferin’s Options Day Program, residential homes and community participants and partnerships.

Why is this project important to the community?

The Grow & Connect project is important to our community because it provides a space for connection, healing, and inclusion for people of all abilities. Many of the adults supported through Community Living Dufferin experience social isolation and sensory or mobility challenges that limit their ability to engage in nature-based activities or community programs. Accessible outdoor spaces like this are rare in Dufferin County, especially for individuals who use wheelchairs or walkers.

By creating a fully accessible sensory garden and Tranquility Zone, we are opening new pathways for well-being, education, and social participation. Participants will have a safe, beautiful space to explore the senses, build gardening and life skills, and enjoy the mental health benefits of nature.

Families, volunteers, and local partners will also come together to plant, learn, and connect, strengthening the social connections in our community.
