GRIT (Growth, Resilience, Integrity, Transformation) Youth Leadership Program

What is this project about?

The GRIT Youth Leadership Program is an 8-week mentorship and life-skills initiative designed for vulnerable youth aged 12 to 18 in Peel Region. Through a combination of fitness and recreational activities, goal-setting workshops, mental health discussions, and hands-on life-skills training, participants build resilience, leadership, and confidence. The program connects youth to mentors, employment pathways, and community engagement opportunities, helping them re-engage with education, reduce risk of justice involvement, and envision hopeful futures.

Why is this project important to the community?

Many youth in Peel face intersecting challenges including poverty, food insecurity, housing instability, and lack of mentorship. This increases their risk of disengagement and involvement with the justice system. GRIT provides a safe space for these young people to rebuild confidence, gain practical life skills, and find belonging in a supportive community.

By empowering youth to make positive choices and equipping them with tools for independence, the program strengthens the social fabric of Peel and reduces cycles of disadvantage.
