At Teck Centennial Public Library, our computers are more than just machines — they’re lifelines. Every day, we see people who rely on them to access necessities and change their lives for the better. For many, the library is the only place where they can apply for a job, complete schoolwork, access government services, or contact distant loved ones.
But our technology space — once full of life and possibility — is now showing its age. The computers are slowing down, the furniture is worn, and the lack of privacy makes it difficult for patrons to feel comfortable and confident while using them for sensitive tasks. For those who come here because they have nowhere else to go, it can feel discouraging to sit at a desk that no longer reflects the respect and dignity they deserve.
We want to change that. With the support of the Commonwell L.E.A.F. Grant, we plan to refresh and rebuild our technology area with new desktops, monitors, ergonomic chairs, and desks with privacy screens — creating a space that feels welcoming, private, and empowering.
Modern technology is fundamental to a functional library. But more than that, it’s a reflection of who we are as a community — a place where everyone, regardless of age, income, or background, has a chance to learn, connect, and thrive.
We firmly believe that updated, accessible technology is not a luxury — it is fundamental to a functional, inclusive library and a thriving community.
When you choose to invest in this project, you’re not just upgrading a tech space — you’re changing lives. You’re giving people in the remote, northern town of Kirkland Lake a comfortable, dignified space to dream, grow, and take their next step forward.
