DEEO: Design Education in Eastern Ontario

What is this project about?

DEEO: Design Education in Eastern Ontario is a platform for Secondary School students in Eastern Ontario and beyond! This platform will be developed by Design Labs Canada. This innovative pathway for learning will introduce a strategy for all Students within Eastern Ontario to thrive in the Post Secondary Educational Pathways. Students will have an opportunity to develop skills in Portfolio Development / attend Design Workshops & Learn the software skills needed to develop a professional portfolio and understanding in design disciplines. Topics covered such as “ Graphic Design / Architecture / Media Arts / Illustration / Industrial Design / 3D Modelling / Animation / APP Development / Game Design and more. These workshops will be designed to establish the skills needed for our young adult youth to seek post-secondary education and beyond! These workshops will also be attended by leading professors and students who are currently attending such pathways. Meaning, these workshops will have architectural graduates, post graduate degree programs, students ranging from 1st - masters- PHD design programs directly assisting with questions, insights and what is needed to achieve this type of post secondary pathway. Students will be joining these workshops from Waterloo, SciArc, U of T, MacMaster, OCADU, Western, Algonquin, TMU, Sheridan, UBC, McGill, Carleton, Emily Carr, York and more…….

Why is this project important to the community?

The student population that pursues post secondary education in Eastern Ontario is dropping at an alarming rate. Innovation and Technology are one of the biggest future developments within our country as a whole. We all know the value of skills trades and hands on learning. In our current global challenges, We (Canada ) are diversifying in every innovative strategies and we need to invest in our young youth to seek these solutions, apply new techniques, and foster new opportunities. In order to grow our community and become a provincial equal, we must train and apply the skills that are needed to develop our future developers, our future workforce, our future problem solvers. This can only happen if the technologies and skills being taught are at the forefront of application needs. True leading edge software, communication strategies, software applications that foster AI and true innovative practices. Our community is a strong advocate for Agro & Rural living. That shouldn’t eliminate the value and need for technological training and leading edge innovation.
