CS8 Memorial Outdoor Rink

What is this project about?

The Tim Horton’s Pavilion located at Keterson Park in Mitchell lies dormant in winter, presenting a prime opportunity for transformation into a year-round outdoor space. By converting it into an outdoor rink and versatile recreation hub, we aim to broaden recreational options for residents and enhance community access. This initiative will establish a dynamic, multi-generational activity center fostering a healthier, more vibrant community. In West Perth, reliance on a single ice rink limits winter activities such as ringette, hockey, curling, and figure skating. With the community expanding, access to skating and outdoor recreation is constrained.

Why is this project important to the community?

The Municipality of West Perth relies on one ice rink for winter activities including ringette, hockey, curling, and figure skating. Within the growing community, the single ice pad provides limited public access to skating opportunities, and outdoor activities such as ball hockey and pickleball face additional constraints due to lack of space. Repurposing the pavilion into a year-round, multi-use outdoor space will build stronger community connections, provide an inclusive space for activities, and encourage healthy and active lifestyles within the community.
