Child and Family Services Daabaan Mobile Support Vehicle

What is this project about?

Families living in rural areas of Simcoe County face significant transportation challenges that prevent them from fully accessing community services, supports, and programs. For families with young children (ages 0–6), this barrier can have long-term impacts on child development, parental well-being, and overall family stability.
The Barrie Area Native Advisory Circle (BANAC) Child and Family Services team recognizes the urgent need to close the gap between the need for services and access to services. We believe that connection is the correction—ensuring families have the means to attend programs, appointments, and cultural supports is essential to building strong, healthy communities.
Securing this Vehicle will add to our strength and resiliency and integrity to provide care, supports and services to empower families and engage in community

Why is this project important to the community?

Transportation is more than just getting from one place to another—it is the bridge that connects families to the resources they need to thrive. Without reliable transportation, families with young children face barriers that can impact their long-term well-being:
Child Development: The early years (0–6) are critical for learning, socialization, and growth. Missed opportunities for early years programming and supports can create developmental gaps that are harder to close later.
Equity & Inclusion: Rural families, particularly Indigenous families, are disproportionately affected by transportation barriers. Ensuring access helps close the gap and promotes fairness in service delivery.
Family Well-being: Access to parenting supports, cultural programming, and health services reduces isolation and strengthens resilience in families.
Community Connection: Reliable transportation builds stronger relationships between families, service providers, and the broader community. Connection itself is part of the correction—helping families feel supported and included.
Breaking the Cycle: By investing in transportation now, we help prevent crises later. Families who can access supports early are more likely to thrive, reducing strain on crisis and emergency services in the future.
