Building Youth Resilience Through LifePlan Coaching and Leadership Lunch Clubs

What is this project about?

PACT’s Building Youth Resilience project will provide sustained, relationship-based support to underserved young people experiencing challenges such as trauma, poverty, food insecurity, unstable home environments, school disengagement and involvement in the youth justice system.

During the 2026–27 school year, PACT will provide approximately 20 young people with long-term, trauma-informed, one-to-one LifePlan Coaching. Participants meet regularly with a professionally certified coach who helps them build confidence, strengthen emotional regulation, improve school and community engagement, develop positive relationships and work toward meaningful personal, educational and employment goals.

PACT will also deliver six Leadership Lunch Clubs serving 36 students across three underserved Toronto middle schools. These small-group programs combine social-emotional learning, leadership development, movement, experiential activities and shared meals in a safe and supportive environment. The clubs help students build trusted relationships and practical life skills while providing an early pathway into individualized coaching for those who require more intensive, sustained support.

Why is this project important to the community?

Many young people in the Toronto communities PACT serves are navigating trauma, poverty, food insecurity, unstable home environments, unmet mental-health needs and a lack of consistent adult support. These challenges can affect emotional wellbeing, relationships, school attendance and achievement, while increasing the likelihood that difficulties will escalate into disengagement, conflict or involvement in the youth justice system.

At the same time, schools and community services are under growing pressure and often lack the capacity to provide sustained, individualized support. PACT’s project responds early by giving vulnerable young people safe spaces, trusted relationships and practical tools to manage challenges, recognize their strengths and work toward positive goals. When young people feel seen, supported and connected, they are better able to thrive in school and contribute positively to their families and communities. This early investment helps build stronger schools and safer, healthier and more resilient communities.
