Building Digital Futures: Learn, Create, Connect & Grow A Rural Minecraft, Coding, Robotics and STEAM Learning Hub

What is this project about?

Building Digital Futures: Learn, Create, Connect & Grow will establish a Digital Futures Learning Hub at the Otonabee-South Monaghan Public Library. The project will provide free Minecraft Education, LEGO Education robotics, coding, digital literacy, engineering, and STEAM learning opportunities for children, youth, and families at all three library branches. New laptops, robotics kits, educational technology, and maker resources will support coding clubs, robotics workshops, Minecraft camps, family learning nights, and STEAM challenges. By expanding access to hands-on educational experiences for children and youth, the project will help residents develop future-ready skills while fostering creativity, collaboration, confidence, and lifelong learning.

Why is this project important to the community?

As a rural community, Otonabee-South Monaghan has fewer opportunities to access coding, robotics, engineering, and technology-based learning programs than larger urban centres. Families often face barriers related to cost, transportation, and program availability. At the same time, digital literacy, problem-solving, creativity, and technology skills are increasingly important for educational success and future employment. OSMPL has experienced growing demand for Minecraft, coding, maker, and STEM programming, demonstrating a clear need for expanded learning opportunities. This project will provide free, accessible programs that help children and youth build confidence, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and digital skills while creating meaningful opportunities for family and intergenerational learning and community connection, and lifelong learning.
