There are six schools in Lambton Shores that all have a "Noelle's Closet". These closets were set up to contain sweat pants, t-shirts, long sleeved shirts, rain gear, winter gear, shoes/boots, hygiene products, backpacks, etc. Many of these cupboards are almost bare. One in four families are food insecure which means they do not have the finances to provide other necessities. Those that have are outnumbered by those that come to school with no lunch, off season clothing, shoes that don't fit and no rain/winter boots. Many of the items in the closets have been from unclaimed lost and found.
The Principal at one of the schools noted that money could also be used to finance field trips for those that would not have the means to participate.
Our Ausable Port Franks Optimist Club would like to purchase new items for these "closets" in each of the 6 schools and also give them cash that we would ask that they designate as needed to field trips and food. Students learn better if they have eaten a good breakfast and lunch.
