Active Minds, Active Bodies: A New Schoolyard for Omemee Children

What is this project about?

Scott Young Public School is launching a major playground revitalization to improve the health and well-being of children in Omemee. With approximately 500 students now learning on a single campus—and the schoolyard also serving as a key recreation space for local youth soccer—this project will transform the outdoor environment into a safe, accessible, and engaging space for active play, social connection, and outdoor learning.

The upgraded playground will feature inclusive equipment, safer surfacing, shade, and age-appropriate play zones designed to support physical activity, creativity, and mental wellness. By improving one of the most frequently used play spaces in Omemee, this initiative will strengthen community belonging, promote lifelong healthy habits, and ensure that all children have a place to move, explore, and thrive close to home.

Together, we are building a brighter, healthier future for Omemee’s kids—through play.

Why is this project important to the community?

This project is important because the schoolyard at Scott Young Public School is one of the only dedicated outdoor play spaces for children in Omemee. It is used every school day for active play and social connection, and it continues to serve the community throughout the summer as a central gathering and recreation space for local youth, including organized sports such as soccer.

Investing in this upgrade will ensure Omemee children have a safe, engaging, and inclusive place to play, learn, and stay active—year-round. Enhancing this shared community space strengthens child well-being, supports healthy development, and contributes to a vibrant and active rural community where all children can thrive close to home.
