English Language Courses for Ukrainian Newcomers

What is this project about?

This is a project is to provide English language instruction to Ukrainian newcomers at no cost in their native language in an effort to improve comprehension and ultimately better integration into society. Requirements include payment for instructor, desktop unit and accessories, space requirements, resource materials, paper and other office supplies.

Why is this project important to the community?

While several families have settled in successfully, there are many that are struggling and have not been able to integrate as well. Some mange to get by with little knowledge of the English language, but others are still experiencing challenges. There have been government funded English language programs within Simcoe County available to newcomers, but unfortunately not in the Newcomers native language. Many have expressed their frustration in not being able to follow along, resulting in poor participation and understanding.
